From sustainability expert to software innovator:
the story behind S360

"With over 25 years’ experience working in internal sustainability roles, I’ve seen first-hand the challenges organisations face across environmental, social and governance work – from overwhelming admin and stressful certifications to scattered data, being a team of one, and struggling to engage people across the business.

I created S360 to change that: Bringing together expert support, practical ways of working, and simple tools that help organisations build a culture of sustainbility, measure and manage ESG, but most importantly, take action."

Kia ora, hej, hello!

The idea that sparked S360

In 2019, I had an idea that sparked the creation of Sustainability 360. At the time, I was part of the sustainability team at Christchurch International Airport, where I noticed that sustainability information was not easily accessible to all staff, and tracking sustainability goals was a real challenge for senior executives. Reporting was cumbersome and resource-intensive, making progress difficult to manage.

Caroline Thalund, founder of S360 and her border collie

Determined to solve these problems, I developed a digital solution that made sustainability accessible, transparent, and easier to track.

Word quickly spread, and businesses began asking for access to this platform.  Realising its potential, I decided to create a more powerful and scalable tool that could serve a broader audience – and so S360 was born.

S360 is a digital solution that streamlines sustainability/ESG management, provides real-time data visualisations, and simplifies carbon certifications and B Corp (re)certification, saving up to 60% on admin time. Packed with collaborative functionality, it is a platform built for team engagement, buy-in and getting the whole organisation on board with sustainability.

It's the best of digital tools and expert knowledge merged into one elegant and user-friendly software - enabling leaders (whether they have sustainability experience or not) to upskill themselves and their teams and save a huge amount of time by having ready-to-go templates and resources for just about anything!

My approach

I work with organisations in three main ways, depending on their needs and stage.

I support organisations through advisory or embedded fractional sustainability leadership, working closely with CEOs, leadership teams, and boards on sustainability, culture, people-centred change, and impact priorities.

I also undertake one-off or project-based consulting, supporting specific pieces of work such as B Corp certification and recertification, climate and carbon initiatives, impact reporting, internal engagement, and capability building.

S360 provides the digital backbone for some of this work, helping teams reduce administrative burden, improve visibility and accountability, and keep sustainability embedded in everyday decision-making. Some organisations use the platform alongside advisory or fractional support, while others use it independently – the approach is flexible by design.

My background

I’m originally from Denmark, one of the most sustainable countries in the world, where I completed my dual master's degree in science and communication. This included a focus on behavioural psychology, equipping me with the skills to simplify complex subjects like sustainability in order to make them easy to action. Although terms like “sustainability”, "impact" and “ESG” were not widely used at the time in the same way they are now, they formed the foundation of my work. I have spent over 25 years gaining global experience across industries like investment, software, construction, retail, manufacturing, aviation, and tourism.

Now, I combine the strength and principles of Scandinavian sustainability with New Zealand's deep-rooted connection to nature, innovative spirit, and commitment to environmental stewardship to create global solutions that empower businesses to drive meaningful change.

When I’m not working on sustainability solutions, you can find me out exploring New Zealand's beautiful landscapes with my dog Tiki and my family. I believe in balancing work with nature and play, and that same human touch is at the heart of everything we do at S360.
